Is there any setting up to do?
No.
The Ultimate Hotspot SD Card comes pre-packaged ready to plug and play. All configurations and setting up has been integrated into the SD Card image as part of the Sigma Prepper Ultimate Hotspot custom installation files.
Litch plug the Ultimate Hotpot SD Card into your Raspberry Pi and it will transform into a Web Server / Wireless Hotspot called “Sigma” with all of the Survival & Emergency Preparedness content ready to view.

Does it matter which Raspberry Pi I use?
Not Really.
The Ultimate Hotspot SD Card has been tested to work flawlessly on all major versions of the Raspberry Pi. Please note that when using the smaller form factor boards such as the Raspberry Pi Zero, it is important you have the “W” version which includes the Wi-Fi option.
The following Raspberry Pi devices have been successfully tested:
- Pi Zero 1 W (Wi-Fi enabled)
- Pi Zero 2 W (Wi-Fi enabled)
- Pi 3 Model B+
- Pi 4 (2Gb / 4GB / 8GB RAM versions)
- Pi 400 (Integrated into keyboard)
* other models may work flawlessly but have not yet been personally tested.
One of the considerations when selecting your Raspberry Pi device is to consider power requirements and cost. Please see “Which Raspberry Pi is Recommended” in this FAQ’s segment for more information.
Which Raspberry Pi is recommended?
Raspberry Pi Zero v2 W (with Wi-Fi option).
As a result of rigorous testing, I have found the Raspberry Pi Zero 2W to be the best balance of performance / speed and power consumption.
On average, the Pi Zero uses approx 0.6w of power while in operation. At full load (serving web content such as searching Wikipedia etc) the Pi Zero uses approx 1.5w peak power. Since the Pi Zero has a very fast CPU for its size, it only consumes the peak power of 1.5w for just a second or less. It’s as fast as opening documents on your PC hard drive or the equivalent of 500Mbs Internet speeds!
Subsequently, if you consider a typical / large USB battery bank has approx 72Wh of power, it would be able to run the Ultimate Hotspot CONSTANTLY for 5 DAYS!
Obviously in a grid down or SHTF scenario you would probably only use it for an hour or so here and there, so it would last an extremely long time on just a small amount of available USB power.
From my testing to compare, the Raspberry Pi 4 device consumes approx 1.7w in operation and 3.5w peak power consumption during full load / serving content. That’s easily more than TWICE the power consumption of the Pi Zero. What’s more, the extra CPU speed of the Raspberry Pi 4 is not very noticeable compared to the already fast Pi Zero speeds.
How do I view the Hotspot content?
Any Wi-Fi Enabled Web-Surfing Device!
The Ultimate Hotspot (with e.g Pi Zero) can simply go in a case or sit on your shelf. It acts like your home Wi-Fi router. It is accessible via web browser on your personal smart device such as mobile phone, tablet or Laptop PC etc.
iOS & Android devices are all compatible – Simply connect to the Sigma Hotpot Wi-Fi signal and navigate using a regular web browser. This means your desktop PC / Laptop etc can also be used to access the Ultimate Hotspot Survival Content.
I use a Tablet such as an iPad for much of my web surfing – It is power efficient and has a large enough screen to be ‘useful’. However, I have found that when watching movies from the Ultimate Hotspot content I need to select the “Request Desktop Site” on the Safari Browser options. Other than that everything is cross platform compatible.
Is the Survival Hotspot copyright protected?
Yes & No.
The content that comes pre-installed on the Ultimate Hotspot SD card has been made public by the original content creators and is therefore perfectly shareable.
However, the copying of the Sigma Prepper Ultimate Hotspot SD Card for the purposes of resale is protected by copyright and is strictly prohibited. If you would like to make a backup copy for your own personal use or for a close family member – that is totally acceptable.
